HILDITA mi MARIELITA
A musical about the daughter of the Dean of Havana Medical School, set in 1970-1980s Havana, Cuba
There is no dialogue - only lyrics set to modern Latin dance music genres telling the story of a precocious girl singing and dancing through the lives of Havana's ordinary and extraordinary people, as she defends the downtrodden and exalts those whose hard work and spirit would otherwise go unnoticed. But Hildita notices them, with song and dance, and they accompany her in all of her joys, conflicts, and sorrows.
All of the scenes begin with Latin music played from 1950-1980. But the story as sung in each scene is performed in a modern Latin style fitting the mood or emotions of the scene, for example: Salsa for a happy or upbeat lyrics, Bachata for sad and anxious lyrics, and Reggaeton or Latin urban, for lyrics conveying anger and conflict.
The artwork below is original abstract art by the real-life Hildita - her abstractions of places and experiences in Cuba. The furniture pictured with the artwork in her office is also designed by her. In the film, scenes in the family would reflect and contain reproductions of the actual artwork. Licensing of the screenplay may also include rights to reproduce the artwork.
